Can Dogs Eat Pancakes This Pancake Day?
Pancake day is a great excuse to indulge in something sweet and experiment with new toppings. But can your dog also eat pancakes?
Experts at Pethority say you should only feed your dog pancakes if you check the ingredients first. Some popular flavours, such as chocolate and raisins, can be toxic to dogs so be careful when serving them up. The Dog People at Rover also suggest that owners should double-check any allergies their dog may have before serving them up. While it's not advised to feed them to your dog, plain pancakes in moderation are unlikely to harm your dog.
Remember that pancakes aren't healthy treats either, so monitor how many you give your pet. Try not to overfeed your dog and keep the batter fairly plain. While they won't harm your dog, they shouldn't become a regular treat. It's always worth remembering that they shouldn't be fed to dogs who have dairy intolerance or an allergy.

Dog-friendly pancake recipe
Keen to make your dog a treat this pancake day? The Dog's Trust has released a dog-friendly recipe for you to try.
Safe toppings:
✅Banana, apple, carrot, cucumber
✅Peanut butter (xylitol free)
✅Dog biscuits
Toppings to avoid:
❌Chocolate
❌ Raisins
❌Golden syrup and honey
❌Nuts
❌Whipped cream or butter
❌Grapes
Dogs should eat pancakes moderately
Be careful how many pancakes your dog consumes as they contain a large amount of carbs and fats which can lead to dogs suffering from a serious bout of indigestion or becoming overweight.
It's recommended you leave out toppings such as golden syrup, nuts, honey, whipped cream or butter. Keep the pancakes simple as sweets are never good for dogs. Experts say fruits such as bananas and a handful of blueberries are fine to pop on top.

Don't forget...
Remember that treats should only be given to your dog occasionally. As always, if you are at all concerned about whether your dog could tolerate the treats, please check with your vet first.
